Infant & Toddler Care

The providers at Platte River Medical Clinic are focused on care for the entire family. Building a relationship with our providers will contribute to the health and well-being of the whole family. During their first years of life, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends your child is seen more than once a year to ensure proper growth and development.

Well checks typically take 15 minutes. The exams for patients aged 6 months old to 4 years old will be 30 minutes long.

You can also schedule appointments when your child is not feeling well or if you have questions about their health between their well child checks.

What to Expect During a Well Child Check

Newborns

The well child exams for newborns include checking the baby’s weight, length, and the size of their head. You’ll discuss feeding, bowel movements, urination, sleeping, and any questions you may have. A physical exam will include an eye exam, listening to your baby’s heart, and inspecting the umbilical cord. Your provider will also check for how your baby is developing. This will include seeing if your baby focuses and follows objects. Your baby will also receive their first immunizations.

Infants

The well child exams for infants also includes checking the baby’s weight, length, and the size of their head. You’ll discuss feeding, bowel movements, urination, sleeping, and any questions you may have. A physical exam will include an eye exam and listening to your baby’s heart. Your provider will also check for developmental milestones like your baby having good head control when they are sitting. Your baby will also receive any immunizations if they are due.

Toddlers

The well child exams for toddlers also includes checking the toddler’s weight, height, and the size of their head. You’ll discuss feeding, bowel movements, urination, sleeping, and any questions you may have. A screening test will be performed to check for developmental delays or autism. A physical exam will include an eye exam and listening to your child’s heart. Your provider will also check for developmental milestones like your toddler throwing a ball, running, saying 10 to 20 words, and scribbling with a crayon.
