Did you know more than 200,000 people are hospitalized every year with the flu?
At Platte River Medical Clinic we find that people don’t always know the difference between a common cold and the flu.
Flu vs. Cold: Differences
- Symptom Onset – gradual for the cold, but abrupt for the flu
- Fever -rare when you have a cold, but usual for the flu
- Aches – slight for a cold, but usual for the flu
- Chills – uncommon for the cold, but common for the flu
- Fatigue and Weakness – sometimes with the cold, but usual for the flu
- Sneezing – common for the cold and sometimes a symptom of the flu
- Cough – mild symptom for the cold and common for the flu
- Stuffy Nose – common for the cold and sometimes a symptom of the flu
- Sore Throat – common for the cold and sometimes you’ll experience with the flu
- Headache – rare with a cold, but common with the flu
Please keep in mind the best way to prevent getting the virus, and to avoid potentially life-threatening complications, is to get vaccinated. The vaccine can be administered at our primary care clinic. Click here to schedule same-day or next day appointments online.
