Flu Season Is Here!

Did you know more than 200,000 people are hospitalized every year with the flu?

At Platte River Medical Clinic we find that people don’t always know the difference between a common cold and the flu.

Flu vs. Cold: Differences

  • Symptom Onset – gradual for the cold, but abrupt for the flu
  • Fever -rare when you have a cold, but usual for the flu
  • Aches – slight for a cold, but usual for the flu
  • Chills – uncommon for the cold, but common for the flu
  • Fatigue and Weakness – sometimes with the cold, but usual for the flu
  • Sneezing – common for the cold and sometimes a symptom of the flu
  • Cough – mild symptom for the cold and common for the flu
  • Stuffy Nose – common for the cold and sometimes a symptom of the flu
  • Sore Throat – common for the cold and sometimes you’ll experience with the flu
  • Headache – rare with a cold, but common with the flu

Please keep in mind the best way to prevent getting the virus, and to avoid potentially life-threatening complications, is to get vaccinated. The vaccine can be administered at our primary care clinic. Click here to schedule same-day or next day appointments online.
